Potluck Pleasures…

Hey guys. Just wanted to repost this because it hits so close to our families heart. As some of you may know, SJ is a cancer survivor. And we know first hand how emotionally draining fighting cancer can be. But also, financially it is enormously draining. When you are fighting for your life and wracking up thousands upon thousands of dollars in bills. Even if you have insurance, its hard to work etc. So we wanted to put this out there to hopefully appeal to you and ask you to to dig deep and help this family. Even if you don’t want a cook book cause your like Piper and may burn your kitchen down. Buy it for someone for Christmas or something. There are tons (like 200) tried and loved recipes in here so you wont be disappointed. And you will be helping a sister with cancer. Thanks guys!

Love Nikki, Bree, and SJ

Swiped from Maren Smiths Blog.

I posted this on Facebook this morning, but thought I’d bring it here as well. I don’t often do this. You will likely never see another request like this on my blog ever again. However, it hit me close to home and I could not sit idly by and do nothing. Here is this morning’s post:

A member of the group to which I belong has cancer and it’s not going well. As she has no medical insurance and bills beyond belief, in an effort to do something to help her, our group put together a potluck cookbook featuring 200 (more or less) of our favorite recipes. I think I donated 15–all family favorites like my incredibly good potato soup and Robin’s Cheesy Hamster Enchiladas (no hamsters are harmed in the making of said dish–chickens, on the other hand, not so lucky).

Now, I am buying 10 copies of this book despite the fact that I have nowhere near that many people to give it to. If anyone would like one of those copies, please message me privately. I don’t ask to be repaid the cost of the book; I’ll even spring for shipping. It just feels wrong to throw them away.

Since posting that message this morning, I’ve received so many positive emails of support and well-wishes for my friend, and inquiries about how to help. So, this is the information I have.

If you want to buy your own cookbook, you can do so here: http://www.potluckpleasures.com This is the direct link to place your order. If you want to go that route, you need to place them by August 14th.

I have also received inquiries about donating privately, but without the expectation of receiving a cookbook in return. We don’t have anything set up to do that at this time. However, you can send your donation to me and I’ll get it to the group, (I’m driving up now every two weeks), OR you can wait for a little bit. I am driving up there tomorrow and we’ll try to figure out what we need to set up to be able to do this.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already messaged me. You have no idea how overwhelmed I have been by your outpouring of support and willingness to help someone you don’t even know. This means more to me and to my group and, most importantly, to our friend, than I could ever hope to express in words.

  1. You guys are awesome. I saw Maren Smith’s post and it hit me hard. SJ, Nik and I are big followers of paying it forward. So many people were there when we went through this hell and I praise God every time I see his smiling face (emphasize smiling). And let us all continue in our prayers for her friend, ok? I see this disease take lives everyday in my work and we need to start fighting back harder than before,

  2. Sheesh, start a couple of fires and people get all sensitive! I will remind everyone, I DO keep the fire extinguisher close by now. I will also order mine 🙂

    • Piper, are you going to promise not to use it, or at least put the fire dept on standby? Just kidding. My cooking skills are abour that rusty now..

      • Gigi I promise nothing LOL Just wait…I have a steak recipe a coworker gave me, where I have to add alcohol and light it on fire, I’m trying that this weekend…it’ll be fun 🙂

  3. I’llorder mine this week. My older brother died of cancer. The last thing he wouldnhave needed was financial problems to goalong with those terrible health problems. Best wishes to your friend,

  4. Thanks so much for sharing this. I’m going to the site tomorrow at work and buy one. Not for me mind you. I’m not as bad as Piper 😉 (sorry babe), but I don’t cook too often. Two of my close friends had breast cancer. Let’s kick cancer’s ass!!
