I sat in the back seat, my eyes filled with tears, as they argued back and forth about Max’s right to be annoyed and Mik’s obligation to be honest with him. My discomfort grew into anger. This was not the way we were supposed to restart our lives together. The three of us had been through hell and back, and we had witnessed enough ugliness in that New York courtroom to last a lifetime.
