Bust Out Your Bears

It’s Plush Animal Lover’s Day today! Dust off your plushies if they need a little sprucing up. If they are always around to provide comfort show them a little extra love today.

It’s never to late to have a stuffed animal and I’d bet lots of littles (and not so littles) would agree. There’s just something about a stuffed animal, be it the childhood memories or the present, or maybe it’s the knowledge they’re always there for a good cuddle.

I don’t know about you but I have a bunch of stuffed animals. There are some that hold a special meaning, some that show years of love and some that have long since lost some of their plushy nature.

Do you have a favorite stuffed animal? Does have a special meaning for you?

“Then, suddenly again, Christopher Robin, who was still looking at the world, with his chin in his hand, called out “Pooh!” “Yes?” said Pooh. “When I’m–when–Pooh!” “Yes, Christopher Robin?” “I’m not going to do Nothing any more.” “Never again?” “Well, not so much. They don’t let you.” Pooh waited for him to go on, but he was silent again. “Yes, Christopher Robin?” said Pooh helpfully. “Pooh, when I’m–you know–when I’m not doing Nothing, will you come up here sometimes?” “Just me?” “Yes, Pooh.” “Will you be here too?” “Yes Pooh, I will be really. I promise I will be Pooh.” “That’s good,” said Pooh. “Pooh, promise you won’t forget about me, ever. Not even when I’m a hundred.” Pooh thought for a little. “How old shall I be then?” “Ninety-nine.” Pooh nodded. “I promise,” he said. Still with his eyes on the world Christopher Robin put out a hand and felt Pooh’s paw. “Pooh,” said Christopher Robin earnestly, “if I–if I’m not quite–” he stopped and tried again– “Pooh, whatever happens, you will understand, won’t you?” “Understand what?” “Oh, nothing.” He laughed and jumped to his feet. “Come on!” “Where?” said Pooh. “Anywhere.” said Christopher Robin.

So, they went off together. But wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the Forest, a little boy and his Bear will always be playing.” ― A.A. Milne, The House at Pooh Corner

  1. I have a stuffed black and white bear who has been missing one of his ears for as long as I can remember. I have no idea where I got him from but for some reason he has always soothed me. He has a special spot on my Husband’s night stand so if he is needed Hubby can quickly get him for me. My husband calls me a “sometimes little” and when those sometimes hit the bear is a must.

  2. I have a teddy that i love to bits. She sleeps with me to keep me company when i need cuddles. Never heard of yhis day but i love it!!.

  3. To be fair… I used to love my plushies. Then I lost my favourite, and it is quite a traumatic experience when all you love is your close family, handful of friends, and your plushies. I no longer attach to such things. It takes just a little something to lose them.

  4. I have a cherish teddy bear collection ,, dolls , that I swear are watching me. Okay I have a wild imagination, but the one loved, was taken away from me, got it for Christmas when I was six. It went everywhere I went, was my best friend. But 25 yrs later, my ex husband took it, but that is okay,, teddy understood, Alex my son was more important.

  5. I have my Paddington bear who sleeps near me everynight and accompanys me on trips. I would sleep with him everynight, but I have been told that’s weird. Why can’t some people just be ok with stuff that doesn’t even affect them? Then I have an owl from my sissy and a bear from my bestie and right now they sleep together hidden away so my little one does not get to them and I don’t get teased for having them. I gave them all extra cuddles today. Thanks for sharing Mama!

  6. I love my penguin plushie. His name is Jean-Claude. He is super soft and he isn’t too big or too small. I’m not ashamed to say he watches scary movies with me. He is also our family mascot on vacations. We take him along and stick him in scenic pictures we take, next to”Welcome to…” signs. It makes for a lot of fun pictures. The while family loves him. And he isn’t prideful at all that he is my favorite of my plushies. He is a very humble penguin. 😉

I didn’t even know this day existed! Thanks for sharing with us.

  7. I have many teddy bears that have a special chair in the corner of my room very close to my side of the bed. That is the best that I can do since my husband won’t let me sleep with them anymore. I do have 2 very special ones that I do cuddle with when I need a friend. One is the first teddy bear I ever received and he has seen me through some really tough stuff and then my other was my grandma that I was given when she passed away 15 years ago. I also have a teddy bear blanket that I cuddle when I have to travel. My husband seems to be ok with the blanket.

    • I’m dealing with the same stuff with my husband Shelly. I feel ya. I have started sleeping with a blanket too and maybe that will warm him up to my bear soon.

  8. I have a German Shepherd stuffy that my little Jay made for me after my Shepherd died, to remember her by. I also have a horse that has been around since I was a kid. I never stopped sleeping with my stuffies so your sure to meet them. Lol

  9. I got a stuffed penguin before my trip to DC. It has grown very special to me and I cuddle it often when I’m stressed. Makes me think of everyone that I grew to love in DC!
